1. Who we are and what this covers

These terms govern your use of Basis, a service of Shoonya Origins (“we”, “us”), including the reporting form, dashboard, marketplace, moderation tools and free calculators on this website. By using Basis you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Our Privacy Policy and Legal Disclaimer also apply.

2. What Basis is, and is not

Basis collects citizen reports about urban problems, analyses them, and aims to turn them into structured evidence. We are an independent private venture. We are not a government body, we do not act on behalf of any municipal authority, and submitting a report through Basis does not create a complaint with any authority. Basis is not an emergency service. If someone is in danger, call the emergency services.

3. Accounts

You can report without an account. To earn credits or use the marketplace you need one. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in details safe, and tell us if you think your account has been misused. You are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over.

4. Your reports and content

You are responsible for what you submit. When you submit a report, photo or other content:

• you confirm it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that you took it or have the right to share it;
• you must not include content that is unlawful, abusive or misleading, or that shows people's faces, private documents or other personal information where that can be avoided;
• you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store, display, analyse and process it to run Basis, to prepare anonymised summaries for civic bodies, and to train, evaluate and improve our detection models. Models trained this way are ours and are not tied to your individual photo.

You keep ownership of your content. You can ask us to remove a photo, and we will stop using it in future training, though we cannot undo training already done.

5. What you must not do

• Submit fake, duplicate, staged or spam reports, or otherwise try to earn credits dishonestly.
• Use scripts, bots or multiple accounts to inflate reports or credits.
• Interfere with, probe or attack the service, its security or other users.
• Upload malware, or content you have no right to share.
• Impersonate someone, or misuse the platform to harass or target individuals.

6. City credits

City credits are a reward for taking part. They are not money, not property and have no cash value; they cannot be withdrawn, sold or transferred. We set how many credits an action earns and what they cost in the marketplace, and we may change these at any time. We may adjust, reverse or remove credits, and suspend accounts, where we find fraud, abuse or error.

7. Marketplace, shops and vouchers

Products and vouchers are listed by independent local shops. Basis provides the marketplace but is not the seller. The shop is responsible for the accuracy of its listing, its stock, and for honouring a redemption code you present. Any dispute about a product or voucher is between you and the shop. If you register a shop, you promise that your information is accurate, that you will honour what you list, and that you will comply with the laws that apply to your business.

8. Free tools

The calculators are provided free and run in your browser. Their results are estimates for general guidance only and are not professional engineering, structural, legal, tax or financial advice. Do not rely on them for anything safety-critical or legally binding without checking with a qualified professional.

9. Moderation and AI

Photos may be analysed by an automated model and reviewed by moderators. The model can be wrong. We may remove content, reject reports or restrict accounts at our discretion, including where content breaks these terms. Moderators are trusted individuals we invite; they do not speak for us outside the review tools.

10. Availability and changes to the service

Basis is provided as-is and may be unavailable at times. Features marked as planned or rolling out are goals, not promises. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the service, including the marketplace, credits and the free tools.

11. Suspension and ending

You can stop using Basis at any time and can ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms or if we need to protect the service or other people.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Basis is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that reports will lead to any action by any authority, or that detections or estimates are accurate or complete.

13. Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Basis, nor for anything a shop, another user or a third party does or fails to do. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us for it, which for a free service is nil, except where the law does not permit that limit. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts located in Pune, Maharashtra have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from the service.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Basis develops. The effective date at the top shows the current version, and continuing to use Basis after a change means you accept it. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
